Thoothukudi Theatre Provides Shelter Amid Heavy Rainfall In Tamil Nadu
Ongoing rain has raised concerns in the southern districts. The government, party workers, and volunteers are assisting.

Southern districts of Tamil Nadu are experiencing floods, with the Meteorological Department reporting record-breaking rainfall in a single day. Thoothukudi Kayalpatnam witnessed 95 cm of rain in 24 hours on Monday. Over 50 locations in the Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts have recorded showers exceeding 45 cm.

Chennai witnessed over twice the rainfall received in a single day on Monday compared to the 45 cm recorded during Cyclone Michaung. Ongoing rain has raised concerns in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu. The government, party workers, and volunteers are assisting. Thoothukudi Sribalakrishna Talkies management issued a statement addressing the impact of the rain disaster.

In response to the impact of the ongoing storm in Thoothukudi, an announcement has been made by Sribalakrishna Talkies Theater. They are extending assistance to the affected residents by providing meals, available starting from 10:30 am yesterday.

The first film Fight Club, released by Lokesh Kanaraj’s G Squad company and starring Uriyadi Vijayakumar, was scheduled to play at this theatre. Due to rain, the shows have been cancelled. Following this, the theatre owner has transformed it into a relief camp, providing food for those affected.

Widespread flooding in various districts of Tamil Nadu has halted normal life. The Indian Air Force, army, and rescue teams were actively engaged in relief operations. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state can expect light to moderate rainfall. Tragically, three individuals have lost their lives in the same.

Chief Minister MK Stalin has formally requested an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 19 to address the ongoing rain and flood situation in the southern parts of the state.

Heavy rainfall has inflicted severe impacts on the southern districts of Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli. Notably, Kayalpattinam in Tuticorin recorded an astonishing 95 cm of rainfall within 24 hours.

Efforts by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to reach underwater areas face significant challenges. Meanwhile, discharges from reservoirs and lakes continue.

Neighbouring districts have sent a convoy of eighteen trucks carrying food and relief items to Tuticorin. Three more teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have also been mobilised to assist the flood-affected districts.
