Tamil director N Linguswamy opened up about the actor rejecting his 2006 hit film for unusual reasons.

Thalapathy Vijay, who is currently enjoying the success of his recent release Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is keeping fans eagerly awaiting his next project. Recently, an interview featuring Tamil director N Linguswamy has surfaced on the internet, shedding light on Vijay’s rejection of Linguswamy’s 2006 hit film, Sandakozhi, for unconventional reasons.

In a recent interview, N Linguswamy shared insights into the casting process of his breakthrough 2006 film, Sandakozhi, initially offered to Jyothika and Vijay. Linguswamy revealed that Vijay declined the project because he was unconvinced about his role, especially how it shaped up in the second half.

According to the director, Vijay expressed concerns that Rajkiran, who played a significant role in the film, would overshadow him in the second half, leaving little for Vijay to contribute. Linguswamy also mentioned that Vijay declined to listen to the full script before deciding not to be a part of the film.

“When I insisted on completing my full narration, Vijay firmly avoided it and asked me to move on to the next stories. I left the place, and he didn’t hear the second half at all,” added the director.

Subsequently, after Vijay’s rejection, Linguswamy sought a fresh face for the lead role, eventually finding Vishal. Reportedly, Vishal dedicated significant effort to the project, and upon its release, Sandakozhi emerged as a major box-office success. The film not only established Vishal in the industry but also became one of the highest-grossing films of the year. It was later remade in Kannada in 2009 under the title Vayupura.

Meanwhile, Thalapathy Vijay is presently engrossed in the shooting of Thalapathy 68, directed by Venkat Prabhu. There are speculations that the film’s title will be unveiled on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2024. The cast of Thalapathy 68 includes Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Jayaram, Yogi Babu, and Meenakshi Chaudhary in prominent roles.
