Padma Bhushan Awards 2024: Mithun Chakraborty, Usha Uthup, Pyarelal and Vijayakanth Among Recipients
Mithun Chakraborty, Usha Uthup, Pyarelal Sharma and late Tamil actor Vijayakanth have been honoured with Padma Bhushan Awards 2024.

Padma Bhushan Awards 2024 recipients have been announced and several renowned artists from the field of entertainment have been honoured. It has been revealed that popular actor Mithun Chakraborty, renowned singer Usha Uthup, acclaimed music composer Pyarelal Sharma, of the Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo, and late Tamil actor Vijayakanth (posthumous) have been honoured with one of India’s highest honours. They are among the 17 Padma Bhushan awardees announced for the year.

73-year-old Mithun Chakraborty is known for his long, successful Bollywood career. The actor, hailing from West Bengal, made his debut in Mrigayaa, which helped him bag the National Film Award for Best Actor. He went on to star in films such as Disco Dancer, Agneepath and Pyaar Jhukta Nahin. He is not the only actor to be honoured for his contributions to the field of entertainment.

Tamil actor turned politician Vijayakanth has been posthumously recognised with the Padma Bhushan honour as well. The actor, who died in December 2023, was fondly known as Captain by his fans. He had starred in several films, including Vaidehi Kathirunthal, Amman Kovil Kizhakale, Poonthotta Kaavalkaaran Chinna Gounder and Honest Raj. His 100th film, Captain Prabhakaran, helped him earn the moniker of Captain.

Pop singer Usha Uthup has been known for her contributions in the space of music in India. Having sung songs such as Ramba Ho, One Two Cha Cha, Shaan Se, Koi Yahaan Nache Nache and Hari Om Hari, the 76-year-old singer added a unique musical touch to films.

Finally, Pyarelal Sharma of the iconic duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal has also been honoured in the field of entertainment. With his partner, Pyarelal composed iconic tracks such as Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai, Sheesha Ho Ya Dil Ho, Hum Tum Ek Kamre Mein Band Ho, Jumma Chumma De De and Ek Haseena Thi that continue to rule the music playlists.
