Shah Rukh Khan has been awarded the Indian of The Year 2023 Award at the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year 2023. The actor was present at the prestigious awards show, accepting the award from the esteemed jury. This marked Shah Rukh Khan’s first-ever media appearance since 2019.

The Bollywood superstar has had a spectacular 2023 with three big releases, two of which — Pathaan and Jawan — shattered several records. His third release, Dunki, was also a hit. Pathaan has turned out to be a landmark film for Yash Raj Films, earning a jaw-dropping lifetime collection of Rs 543.05 crore in India and Rs 1,050.3 crore worldwide, setting a new benchmark of Rs 1,000 crore collection at the box office.

Mani Ratnam was honoured with the CNN News18 Indian of the Year 2023 in the field of Entertainment. The acclaimed filmmaker was presented the award by veteran screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar at the star-studded ceremony. To everyone’s surprise, Shah Rukh Khan, who worked with Mani Rantam in Dil Se, even “begged” for a film with him! “Mani sir, what now?” he said, adding, “It’s all come out in the open now. I’m requesting you – I’m begging you – I’m telling you every time! Do a film with me, I swear, I will dance on top of a plane on Chhaiya Chhaiya, if you’d tell me.”

To this, Mani Ratnam said he will do a film with SRK when he buys a plane. To this, Shah Rukh Khan said, “Mani, the way my films are going…this plane is not far away. I’m coming!”

Later, when the event was wrapping up, Shah Rukh Khan even joked with Mani Ratnam, “Thank you, Mani Sir, for the film! March, I’ll be there, sir. Morning shift, 2 pm.”

The Indian of the Year winners were decided with 50% weightage from public votes and 50% weightage from the jury. The Indian of The Year Award has previously been conferred to eminent personalities such as Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and cricketer Virat Kohli.
