Going beyond the realm of Indian cinema, the international film festival will also showcase a diverse selection of movies and documentaries from various countries, promising a cinematic feast for attendees. Notably, renowned Tamil directors Vetrimaaran and Seenu Ramasamy have earned spots in the festival’s prestigious roster, with Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai Part 1 and Seenu Ramasamy’s unreleased film Idi Muzhakkam set to grace the international stage.

Released in 2023, Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai Part 1 boasts a stellar cast that includes Vijay Sethupathi, Soori, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and actress Bhavani Sree. The movie revolves around Operation Ghosthunt. This mission seeks to capture the leader of the Tamil Liberation Army–Makkal Padai, portrayed by Vijay Sethupathi. The film keeps audiences engaged with moments of high tension and successfully achieved commercial success at the box office. The sequel to the movie is slated for release next year, adding to the anticipation surrounding Vetrimaaran’s compelling narrative. The captivating musical score for the film is the creation of the renowned composer Illaiyaraaja. Notably, the movie marked a significant milestone as the first film with actor Soori in the lead role. Vijay Sethupathi’s character drew inspiration from Kaliyaperumal Vaathiyaar, a member of the Tamil Desiyam Group active in the 1980s.

Seenu Ramasamy’s collaboration with GV Prakash unfolds in the unreleased film Idi Muzhakkam. While the film has yet to hit theatres, it is expected to make its debut at the Pune International Festival 2024. GV Prakash is set to portray the role of a meat shop owner in this intriguing narrative. The film’s musical composition is credited to NR Raghunathan, with lyrics penned by Vairamuthu. Idi Muzhakkam is said to be based on a real incident that transpired in Madurai, featuring actress Gayathrie Shankar in the role of a nurse. The makers unveiled the first look of the movie last year, heightening the anticipation for its screening at the upcoming festival.

As the 22nd Pune International Film Festival promises a cinematic extravaganza, the inclusion of these distinguished Tamil directors and their compelling works adds an extra layer of excitement for film enthusiasts eagerly awaiting this cultural showcase.
