Ashutosh Rana Returns To Theatre After 30 Years
Reflecting on his time as a theatre student in Delhi, the actor fondly remembers the food scene around the NSD campus.

After a hiatus of 30 years, actor Ashutosh Rana returns to the world of theatre by taking on the role of Ravana. Reflecting on his time at NSD during his student days, where he was a regular in theatre, he nostalgically recalls his journey. Widely recognized for his villainous roles in films like Dushman (1998), Sangharsh (1999), and Mulk (2018), Rana is now delving deeper into shades of grey by portraying Ravana in a play. This marks his comeback to the Delhi stage and theatre after an absence of three decades.

Rana expresses, “My last appearance at Delhi’s Kamani Auditorium was in 1994, during my NSD days. After three decades, I’m returning to the theatre with the play Humare Ram, creating a sense of completion and a full circle in my life.”

Rana reveals, “In my hometown Gadarwara (Madhya Pradesh), Ramleela was a tradition, but I never got to play Ravana as I was too young and lacked the required maturity. Finally, my childhood desire has come true now.”

Reflecting on his NSD days, he reminisces, “In 1991, there was a belief that actors aspiring for cinema weren’t serious about the craft, and NSD wasn’t considered suitable for me. Times have changed, though.” Recalling his student life, he shares, “From 5:30 in the morning until midnight, it was all about NSD. When I revisited the campus recently, I noticed significant changes.”

Reflecting on his time as a theatre student in Delhi, the actor from Tiger 3 (2023) fondly remembers the food scene around the NSD campus. He shares, “During our days, there used to be a lively fast-food bus on Tansen Marg where we enjoyed good times… Outside NSD, there was a juice centre and a tea stall… Things have changed now,” he concludes.

Recently, Hrithik Roshan discussed the emotional scene in Fighter, where he encounters Ashutosh Rana at the airport, engaging in a powerful conversation. Acknowledging Rana’s talent, Roshan highlighted their effective collaboration in the scene. He credited both actors portraying the mother and father, noting their exceptional performances, which made his role in the scene relatively minimal.
